Carlene and family move off-island!
Carlene's husband Kelley has accepted a position as Communication Specialist in the Mayor's office for the city of Renton (Washington). He beat out 78 other applicants for the position and is very excited about the job. With the move, Carlene plans to take a sabatical from cake baking to enjoy some quality family time with her three-year-old son until he begins school in two years. At that time she may entertain the idea of returning to the business.
...until then, thank you for your interest and support!
Best wishes.

Carlene rescues off-island wedding cake
following a near-disastrous car ride
A bride and groom arrived on San Juan Island August 10, with the 4-tier wedding cake they purchased off-island. Having survived many miles of driving, and a nearly two-hour ferry ride, just moments after their arrival in Friday Harbor the soon-to-be-married couple braked to avoid an approaching vehicle with disastrous results for the wedding cake.
Carlene was contacted at 8:15 p.m. that evening the very night before the scheduled wedding and agreed to attempt to rescue the cake, sight unseen.

Though the cake layers were severely damaged following the accident, Carlene was able to safely remove the frosting and rebuild the cake. Carlene then re-frosted and re-decorated the cake, replicating the original design.
